Activity 4b: Do we know these shapes?

James said, "The flower is made up of 3 shapes - Circle, Triangles and Rhombuses".
Do you agree?

  • If yes, tell us how many circle, triangle and rhombus could you find in this picture?
  • If not, why not? Tell us more what you think...

shapes not precise and doesnt follow properties. eg. sides of 'rhombus' not parallel; triangles only 2 straight lines.

they do not have the properties of a triangle, rhombus or a circle. hence cannot find any.

1 circle, 10 triangles and 10 rhombuses

circle - 1
rhombus - 24

Shapes are not drawn using straight lines. Therefore cannot be rhombus and triangles.

Pair 11: I like the flower. But it won't look nice if the shapes are EXACT circles, triangles and rhombuses. I hope this flower gives me GOOD LUCK tomorrow as I have LESSON OBSERVATION tomorrow.....

picture blur, cant see. but i think there is 1 circle, 10 for the so-called rhombuses and triangles (1 side curved?)

shapes are not drawn accurately. Some triangles have more than 3 sides.

1 circle, 10 rhombuses & 10 triangles.

Hee hee!!

can only roughly count as a circle since the flower's drawn freehand... however, since the edges are not straight, don't think the petals are triangles. don't see any rhombuses as the edges are not of the same length.

As Maths teachers we quite often scold our pupils for drawing imperfect circles, triangles or rhombuses and here we are trying to match imperfect shapes and identify them as circles, triangles or rhombuses.

If you want accurate one, answer is don't have. Otherwise it will be 1 circle, 10 triangles. Rhombus - definitely not.

Answer:
1 circle
10 triangles
10 rhombus
Remarks: Not all triangles and rhombuses have staight edges. The Rhombuses should have equal sides.
